Where do you work?
DDB Group, which is a big advertising company.
What is your role?
I'm a Junior Designer in the craft department, which basically means I work on all the print advertising. We have huge clients like McDonalds, VW and Telstra so there's heaps of pressure for the work to be turned over quickly and perfectly. Lots of late nights!
When did you graduate from Shillington?
I completed the 1 year part-time course at the end of 2009.
How long did it take you to find work?
I went overseas for 6 months after the course finished. Once I got home it took about 3 weeks after I started looking!
What were you doing before the course?
I travelled in the US and worked at JB Hi Fi.
Why did you decide to do the course?
I really wanted to study design but didn't want to do a 4-year course at university. After spending a few days on the net, Shillington looked like the best course by far.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from the course?
Attention to detail, not adding in stuff just for the sake of it and all the keyboard shortcuts! Also spending time researching and planning rather than just getting straight onto the computer.
How confident did you feel about entering the design industry after you graduated?
I was really confident! It was so good going into interviews and seeing how impressed people were that I was just a grad and had such a professional folio.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Probably seeing an ad that I'd worked on, up on a big billboard on George St (Sydney). Another highlight was when I spent 3 days playing with Playdough for a pharmaceutical ad I was doing!
