What is your role?
Freelance Designer.
What sort of work are you doing?
I'm currently working on a range of jobs from websites, company identities, promotional flyers, product brochures and swing tags, invitations, book cover designs, illustrations and business cards.
What sort of deadlines do you work to?
It depends on the job, the client's deadline and often, how organised they are. It can range from a day to a month, really varied, so a good diary and a white board is a necessity to keep track!
What do you love about Graphic Design?
I love the freedom and enjoy the challenge each project brings. Every job is different and every client has a different view on what they want, so it's finding that balance to keep everyone happy. I love being able to use graphic design to impact others in a positive way, whether the client is after their dream wedding invitation or a promotional booklet to bring on new business, being a part of that is a great feeling. Graphic design covers such a broad spectrum too so there's lots of opportunities in lots of different areas, and I love that variety!
What do you find inspiring?
I find everything around me inspiring! Since doing the course I've started noticing, more and more, all the graphics we are surrounded by, from billboards to flyers, to company logos to websites, and it just gets you thinking of all the possibilities.
How has Shillington helped you gain employment?
It has given me the opportunity to do what I love. Shillington has equipped me with the principals needed for good design and encouraged me to think outside the square. I've got several jobs directly through doing the course; through other students, referrals and also their blog, so it's been amazing!
