What is your current job?
Graphic Designer.

What sort of work are you doing?
All sorts of design, both web and print. Basically anything that needs to be designed, I do.

What sort of deadlines do you work to?
The deadlines vary. Some jobs are more like projects that span across a few months with deadlines at certain points of the project. Others are rush jobs where the clients need it yesterday. Generally though the deadlines aren't too tight and we can create a workable schedule.

What do you love about Graphic Design?
I love the fact that every job I work on is completely different from the last. It's always a challenge and once things finally click the feeling is awesome. To know that you are competently creating something out of nothing that will possibly be seen by thousands of people everyday. I love the variety of the work, one minute it is a massive sign for a property company, the next it's a website for a childrens clothing company. And also when you get positive feedback from a client who genuinely appreciates your work, it's a really satisfying and motivating feeling. It's a great industry to be in, especially when you are working at a great company with a cool team of people. I also love being able to wear my flip-flops to work in summer!

What do you find inspiring?
Everything and anything. I see the artistic in so many things that others would usually dismiss. The old derelict building on the outskirts of town, or the graffiti at a building site through to the station promos for Channel V or a rocking music video. I also find my boss inspiring, people my age getting out there and just going for it and being successful. It inspires me to keep learning.

How has Shillington helped you gain employment?
Through the Shillington network I was recommended to apply for the job as junior designer. I applied, went through the interview process and got the job. Shillington really taught me the skills that I needed, at the very least, to be able to start anywhere as a junior designer. The knowledge I gained of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop were so important. It also helped me to get together a portfolio which is absolutely essential.
