What is your role?
Creative Art Director.
What sort of work are you doing?
Developing marketing campaigns for some of Australia's most iconic brands such as Surf Life Saving Australia, Tourism Queensland, Freeview & 1300Flowers, working closely with the Creative Directors. Together we conceptualise, sketch and layout the different ideas for each brand, spanning all mediums from online and print to TV and radio.
What sort of deadlines do you work to?
Tight ones! Usually fast turn-around jobs happen within hours. But a long, fleshed-out campaign can take up to two weeks to be developed in full.
What do you love about Graphic Design?
Graphic Design allows us to communicate, in a deeper way, any ideas, thoughts or feelings. The visual language is a universal one, so everyone can relate to it and be touched or influenced by it. Plus it's fun to make things look cool!
What do you find inspiring?
Movies, photography, comedy, video games, music, art, typography, cartoons, old people, little kids, animals, colours, clouds and Cannes Gold Lions!
How has Shillington helped you gain employment?
I don't think I could have ever secured a role within some of Sydney's most award winning agencies without the solid graphic design education I received at Shillington. They gave me a competitive edge head and shoulders above the hundreds of designers fighting for a chair at a creative department. The pieces I created whilst at Shillington, now two years old, still look great. This is a true test of what good design can do for your portfolio.
